We are UT Southwestern medical students providing free Hepatitis B and C screenings for the local community. |
The DFW HepBFree Project was started in 2010 by Doan Dao, then a medical student, with a loan from Dr. William Lee. The mission was to increase awareness and education about hepatitis B, provide free screenings, and help patients with linkage to medical care. He actively sought out communities at high risk for viral hepatitis, aiming to care and educate. In the spring of 2011, the first screening took place at a Chinese community center.
We have expanded over the years, reaching diverse communities all across North Texas from Chinese and Vietnamese to Somali, Burmese, and Nepali populations. We are actively attempting to provide free vaccines and improve our linkage to care. Our method is simple; if you want to help the people in your community, go straight to them.
